Ilaiyaraaja’s Legal Move Halts Good Bad Ugly Streaming Over Song Dispute

Ilaiyaraaja’s Legal Move Halts Good Bad Ugly Streaming Over Song Dispute

Ilaiyaraaja Takes Legal Stand on Song Usage

Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has once again made it clear his music cannot be used without permission. Known for his strict control over the use of his compositions, Ilaiyaraaja has now taken legal action against the makers of Good Bad Ugly, produced by Mythri Movie Makers.

Court Halts Streaming of the Film

The case came up for hearing in the Madras High Court, where Justice N Senthilkumar issued a temporary injunction. The court has restrained the producers from streaming, screening, distributing, or broadcasting the film, including three of Ilaiyaraaja’s iconic songs. This decision forces the team to pull the movie from online platforms immediately.

Three Classic Songs at the Center of the Case

The dispute centers on three classic songs allegedly used without permission. These include “Otha Rubayum Tharen” from Nattupura Pattu, “Ilamai Idho Idho” from Sakalakala Vallavan, and “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi” from Vikram. Ilaiyaraaja claims the producers used these tracks without asking for his consent. He also says they didn’t pay him any royalties. According to him, this violates his copyright and moral rights. He based his argument on Sections 19(9) and 19(10) of the Copyright Act.

Ilaiyaraaja – Copyright Infringement or Misunderstanding?

While Ilaiyaraaja has made a strong legal case, the team behind Good Bad Ugly has yet to issue a public response. It remains to be seen whether the dispute will be settled in court or resolved with an agreement.

Streaming Comes to a Sudden Stop

For now, fans looking to watch Good Bad Ugly online will have to wait. The legal block has disrupted the film’s digital release and caused a major setback for its producers.
