Kishkindhapuri Review: Kishkindhapuri comes with a huge promise of myth, horror and drama. It stars Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles. The film attempts to discover a black past buried in a haunted village and how it relives in the present. But does it work with the audience? Let’s find out.
The cursed village is where the story begins and bad omens are associated with the happenings dating back to 1989. A young couple, Ram (Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas) and Vaidehi (Anupama), get gripped into horror when they encounter an abandoned palace attached with horrifying legends. The past starts getting murkier as the crawling emergences of hidden truths come to life along terrifying experiences.
Director Karthik has tried to present a mixture of horror and emotional drama. The first half is very effective in building the eerie atmosphere, but it drags on the much slower side. The second half gets much heavier in conflict and even more exciting visuals while throwing in some emotional punch, too. But tonal inconsistency and dragging portions take a blow to the impact. Technically, the highest scores of the movie are in sound designing as well as in camera use, emphasizing night sequences.
Refreshingly new performance by Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas in a darkened role.
Anupama Parameswaran bestows her characters with an emotional depth and warmth in the face of horror.
Sam CS delivers well with the music score, which builds tension and drama.
Production value and visual effects seem to have added authenticity into the eerie setup.

The screenplay drags in places, thus affecting the film’s pacing.
Forced comedy dilutes some horror scenes.
Predictable narrative decisions have ransacked the suspense.
Some logic and continuity errors, especially regarding flashbacks.
Kishkindhapuri is an honest attempt to combine mythology with horror in a contemporary way. If it stumbles in execution and pacing, it has a share of thrilling and emotional moments that would appeal to fans of supernatural drama. Its worth a one-time view, especially if mythological horror intrigues you.
