Actress Aishwarya Lekshmi, with her exceptional performances in Malayalam and Tamil films, has decided to take a bold leap now. Although this decision might not raise your eyebrows on the surface, it is bound to make you reflect and consider, especially after watching the tide of comparisons and criticism faced by the actress merely for deciding to leave social media.
Last year, Nazriya Nazim, an actress from South India, went on a temporary leave from Instagram, citing personal reasons for the same in a poignant post. Now, with Aishwarya making her departure from social media public, parts of the internet are ridiculing her for allegedly attempting to follow Nazriya’s footsteps.
For so long,
I took to subscribing to the notion that social media is really needed in order to stay in the game. I felt it imperative to keep up with the times, particularly given the kind of industry that we are involved in.
Somehow, something which was narrated to please us has reverse-UNO-ed and got me serving it instead. It has successfully diverted my attention from what my work & research should be. It has deprived every original idea from me, impacted my vocabulary & language, and rendered all other lesser pleasures unjoyful.
I refuse to be one produced from a generic mould and beholden to the whims & fancies of a supernet. I am a woman and have had to condition myself so much to even notice grooming and control, and conditioned even more to fight it. This is the first original thought that I’ve had in a while.
I’m risking this to be forgotten, and in these times, out of the ‘gram is out of the mind.
So here’s me doing the right thing for the artist & the lil girl in me – Keeping her an original & opting for pure internet obsoleteness. Here’s hoping I make more genuine connections & Cinema in life.
And if I actually make good cinema, love me – Old Style 🙂

“Why do you want to announce it? Just do it! Also, as an actor, social media is an important aspect of movie promotions. Maybe minimize the personal use, hand it over to some teams to handle it for professional use. This sounds more like an ‘I’m not like other girls’ kind of attention post.”
“She is a low-range actress and it was very clear in all her films. But I don’t think she will leave the profession of an actress. Perhaps it’s for attracting more eyeballs, because recently she began one of her films GK2 in Tamil. It’s just that she had her birthday recently, and clearly the success of an existential crisis and playing the ‘cute card’ is backfiring now. Who knows.”
“Know people can think for themselves, right? Good for her. I hope she’s doing alright.”
“Well, tbh I believe people should look for a balance. Many promotional things do occur through [social media], so there is no need to block everything—especially if one belongs to the entertainment industry.”
