Alice In Borderland 3: The teaser for the eagerly awaited Alice in Borderland Season 3 has finally dropped, and everyone is already speculating away. Although it’s just a teaser, it has suspense, mystery, and cryptic dialogue alluding to a larger and far more complicated game. For you might remember, Season 2 ended on an alarming cliffhanger with the Joker card, and it looks like Season 3 is going to delve into the secrets surrounding the Borderland — and just who really controls it.

The teaser treats us with returning characters Banda and Yaba, both of whom laid down some creepy lines that has already sent chills up the fandom.

Yaba says:

「寒気がするような目をしてた。人間じゃねみたいな悪さっつか。」

“He had eyes that gave me chills. Like a kind of evil that didn’t even seem human.”

It’s as if Yaba’s line is the moment to foreshadow something horrible that is coming. The line could probably be directed at Banda — before he has even been shown, helps in defining him as ominous and unpredictable — but, many fans theorize that Yaba is referring to a potentially more dangerous player: the Joker, or the Ferryman, from the original manga.

Banda follows with:

「ここにはまだ、無限の可能性がまだ秘められているからね。ゲーム開始だ。」

“Because here, infinite possibilities are still hidden. The game begins.”

It’s a phrase that reflects the the main theme of Alice in Borderland, that the Borderland is more than just deadly games – it is a world of mysteries, manipulation and now the possibility of being able to crossover into the real world.

Longtime manga readers have speculated that the commoners – especially the high ones like Banda and Yaba, already know who the Joker is. After the 10 of Hearts game in Season 2, we see Kuzuryu and Mira briefly reference the idea of a “Joker”, indicating there is a being that manages everything. If so, this Joker is not just another card, but would be the creator of the Borderland, assigning all the Kings, Queens, and Jacks.

There is also the other possibility of the Joker granting Banda and Yaba the ability to exist in multiple dimensions or timelines. In a recent livestream, Banda’s actor has hinted at appearing in multiple places simultaneously, and even he does not know how this is possible in the character’s universe.

Could the Joker be managing all things behind the scenes – potentially including the meteorite? This tease was short, but is enough to show us: the real game is just beginning!
