How to Protect Yourself from Dengue Fever: Easy Home Tips

How to Protect Yourself from Dengue Fever: Easy Home Tips

Avoid Dengue Fever:

Dengue fever has become a major health concern in many parts of India. Caused by mosquito bites, this viral infection is spreading rapidly, especially during rainy seasons when stagnant water allows mosquitoes to breed. According to reports, more than 49,000 dengue cases were recorded in India till August this year, and sadly, over 40 people lost their lives. Health officials have urged people to take extra precautions to stay safe.

Avoid Dengue Fever:

Unlike normal viral fevers that spread through water or from person to person, dengue is transmitted only by mosquitoes. These mosquitoes are most active during early mornings and afternoons. To prevent dengue, people need to follow a few simple but effective steps.

1. Use Mosquito Repellents:

Apply repellents on the skin to avoid mosquito bites. These provide a protective layer and are especially useful when going outdoors.

2. Wear Protective Clothing:

Always cover your arms and legs with full-sleeved clothes. Light-colored dresses are better because mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors.

3. Install Nets and Screens:

Use window meshes and door screens at home to keep mosquitoes out. Sleeping under mosquito nets also provides extra protection.

4. Remove Stagnant Water:

Mosquitoes breed in stored or stagnant water. Make sure to clean buckets, coolers, flower pots, and containers regularly. Do not allow water to collect around your house.

5. Maintain Clean Surroundings:

Dispose of unused bottles, cans, and plastic items where water can accumulate. Keep your surroundings neat and dry.

6. Use Coils and Vaporizers:

During peak mosquito activity, use mosquito coils or vaporizers inside closed rooms. These help reduce mosquito presence indoors.

By following these simple steps, you can protect yourself and your family from dengue fever. Prevention is always better than cure, and staying alert about cleanliness and mosquito control is the best way to fight this disease.
