5 Habits That Cause Heart Attack: Smokers, Take Note

Heart Attack Habits: Heart disease experts say that red meat and cholesterol are not the only causes of heart attacks. Daily habits, from sitting for long periods of time to chronic stress, can damage arteries and increase the risk of heart attack.

Blood flow and oxygen to the heart muscle are cut off, leading to tissue death. Shortness of breath, chest pain, and excessive sweating are all important symptoms of a heart attack. Here are some habits that can cause heart attacks.

Avoid sitting for hours

Sitting for long hours at work or at home increases the risk of heart disease. In addition, the American Heart Association states that it increases blood pressure, triglycerides, and insulin resistance.

Don’t stress

Continuous stress increases cortisol levels and leads to inflammation and plaque buildup in the arteries. Research in the journal Chronic stress is associated with an increased risk of heart attack, according to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Meditation can help reduce stress.

Get Enough sleep

Getting less than 6 to 7 hours of sleep a night increases your risk of heart disease. The National Sleep Foundation also says that it can lead to high blood pressure and obesity.

Quit drinking

Excessive alcohol consumption puts strain on the heart and raises blood pressure. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) states that excessive alcohol consumption can lead to heart attacks.

Quit smoking

Tobacco damages blood vessels, reduces oxygen supply, and accelerates plaque formation. Quitting smoking significantly reduces your risk.

Eat a healthy diet

Eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, managing stress, getting enough sleep, avoiding alcohol, and quitting tobacco can significantly reduce your risk of heart attacks.
