Bhadrakali Movie Review: Vijay Antony Political Thriller Hit Or Miss?

Bhadrakali Movie Review: Vijay Antony’s 25th film, Bhadrakali, hit the screens on September 19, 2025, with ample buzz, having been made under the directorial expertise of Arun Prabu Purushothaman. It was marketed as a political thriller heavy with action and rebellion and social comments, promising to cater to commercial entertainment while delivering a strong message. But what looked like a winner at the outset soon faltered in its execution, dividing opinion among the audience.

Story

The story centers around a man who is running war against a corrupt political system and a billion-rupee scam. Vijay Antony plays multiple avatars—a family man, a gangster, and a political heavyweight. keeping one guessing about his ulterior motives. The storyline further questions whether he is a savior, a schemer, or just a pawn in this larger game of life.

Analysis

Though more or less, Arun tries to project a multilayered story, with political corruption and rebellion and people’s conflicts running as the central theme, the treatment somehow misses consistency and keeps wading back and forth as engaging. The first half intrigues with Antony’s mysterious roles backed up by powerful background music and sharp dialogues. But by the second half, it loses that grip. The screenplay becomes redundant, the emotional connect disappears, and political confrontations look staged rather than organic.

Vijay Antony carries the film quite honestly, particularly excelling in his family man scenes. His performance in multiple character features, which should have been the film’s highlight, comes across as an underutilized opportunity. The supporting cast underperforms in terms of providing any impact to the narrative, thus leaving Antony single-handedly responsible for carrying the whole film. The music by Vijay Antony himself brings weight into the film but the impact suffered due to uneven pacing.

Plus Points

Vijay Antony’s commitment in multiple roles.

Strong score and powerful build-up in the first half.

Relevant theme concerning corruption and scams.

A few well-shot action sequences.

Minus Points

Predictable second half with nothing to surprise.

Weak emotional connect on family portions.

Supporting characters are underwritten.

The overly long political dialogues lessen their impact.

Final Verdict

Bhadrakali has moments of brilliance but fails to completely exploit them. Bhadrakali remains an good political thriller, worth watching for Vijay Antony’s work and its message, but otherwise treading familiar territory for the genre.

Bhadrakali Movie Review Rating: 2.75/5
