Lakshmi Manchu Slams Journalist: Actress and producer Lakshmi Manchu has raised her voice against a senior journalist who makes derogatory remarks against her under promotions for the film. In a letter to the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, she related that while publicizing her film along with her father, Mohan Babu; the journalist shifted from an appropriate tone to an inappropriate one. He would bully her with remarks on her age, looks, and attire and turn the interaction into an attack rather than interview with her efforts at filmmaking and her film.
Lakshmi said that she respected journalism highly, but what the journalist did was unprofessional. She pointed out that he had used, in her eyes, ageism and body-shaming to trigger and insult her. Shockingly, the journalist purportedly told the actress, “So what if it’s hurtful? At least it goes viral,” implying that he preferred virality over dignity. For Lakshmi, this is not just unprofessional but also harmful as it creates a dangerous precedent.
In her letter towards the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. Lakshmi narrated her own struggles and victories in this man-orientated world. There was no way silence would bring any good; if allowed, this sort of behavior would be further encouraged toward other women perhaps less placed to fight back. It was just as clear as daylight: accountability, not pity.
Calling on the Film Chamber of Commerce to punish him for misconduct, Lakshmi said the journalist’s act had been repeatedly committed, thus not tolerable within a profession. She demanded a formal warning and claimed such behavior was not welcome in the industry.
