SHIVA re-release: reasons to watch it again.

SHIVA re-release: Lets all go back in time, it is 1989, October is just getting started and the cool winds are blowing, then with not much hype and no grand celebrations, Nagarjuna’s film “SHIVA” under the debut director got released in theatres. People who saw it first were shell-shocked to say what they witnessed, they came out of theatres in the trance the film has created in them. Then everyone who went after that came out the same way, that’s when they realized that a new era of filmmaking started in Telugu cinema. 


Ram Gopal Varma, a name now popular across the country made his debut with this Character driven narrative ‘SHIVA’, the film went on to become the biggest hit of Telugu cinema, and it emerged as the classic cinema of that Time period. 

Now, after 36 years, the film will be Re-releasing in theatres on the occasion of ANR’s birth anniversary i.e, 14th November 2025. Film’s lead Nagarjuna himself took to his ‘X’ account and announced that the film will be screened in 4K dolby atmos across the states. Hearing this, fans of the film are eagerly waiting to experience this cult classic on the screens once again. 


What made SHIVA a cult classic?

Shiva re-release sparks a question in the curious mind, what made this film as THE FILM. First of all the film’s tone is fresh and unique, Telugu cinema audiences until then never saw a realistic cinema, in the sense the characters on the screen look so real and the way they talk and emote felt so natural, the audience instantly got hooked to the screen. 

Then there was sound, to talk about sound in the film this article may not be enough. But , one thing can be said about it is, a punch or a footstep in the movie felt like what we hear in reality. Ram Gopal Varma took extra care in sound mixing, the audience’s emotional reaction came out naturally rather than exaggeration.       

There are plenty of reasons to watch the film again in theatres. The makers felt the same and went the extra mile to restore it with new technological tools that can further enhance the emotional experience.
