Aryan Khan’s much-awaited Netflix debut, Ba**ds of Bollywood*, has sparked its first major controversy. The series, which earned praise for Aryan’s directorial skills, has come under scrutiny for a scene featuring Ranbir Kapoor using an e-cigarette.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of the scene. Where Ranbir’s character is shown vaping without a statutory warning. The NHRC argues that this could mislead young viewers and violate the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. As a result, they have asked the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and Mumbai Police to submit an action taken report.
In response, the NHRC has also formally approached the Mumbai Police Commissioner. Urging the registration of an FIR against Ranbir Kapoor, the producers, and Netflix. This complaint could spark wider discussions about the lack of censorship on OTT platforms.
Ranbir’s fans were left shocked by the scene, given that the actor had previously stated he quit smoking and drinking, even embracing a vegetarian lifestyle. The unexpected vaping scene has caused confusion among fans, leaving them wondering if the actor had returned to old habits.
Despite the controversy, Ba**ds of Bollywood* has kept audiences hooked with its star-studded cameos. Ranveer Singh, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Emraan Hashmi, among others, make appearances that add intrigue and excitement. The show also takes fearless jabs at the Bollywood industry, including controversial figures like Sameer Wankhede.
