Shardiya Navratri 2025, is celebrated from September 22 through October 2. This upbeat festival honors the Nine Navadurgas. Day 3 is the day to worship Maa Chandraghanta, who represents Parvati in her married form. She provides followers/chelas with peace and courage. You should wear royal blue on this day, prepare kheer to offer, and recite mantras. Capitalize on Maa Chandraghanta’s divine strength.


 

Who is Maa Chandraghanta?

Maa Chandraghanta signifies Parvati after her marriage to Shiva. She displays a moon-shaped ornament on her forehead, which resembles a crescent moon, thus giving her the name “Chandraghanta.” The deity rides boldly on a tiger. She has ten arms that hold weapons and symbols. Her story speaks to her bravery and grace.


 

Her Brave Mythical Tale

Shiv Purana depicts her struggle and heroic prowess. She battles and vanquishes the bat-demon Jatukasura. He conjures bats that encompass the entire sky. Chandradev’s moon provides her light, while her bell sound breaks the enemy ranks. Chandraghanta then uses her sword to even the score for her team and slays Jatukasura. This demonstrates her bravery and a valient spirit.

 

Why She is Special

Maa Chandraghanta is the assigned deity for the celestial body known as Shukra. She is responsible for the Manipura chakra, which increases one’s confidence. When she is worshipped, she helps to ward off the negative energies from the atmosphere. The worship of her representation causes away pain and suffering. Her grace gives both chelas and devotees peace and strength to face their daily challenges, as well as self-worth.

Offerings to Please Maa Chandraghanta

Offer water for Aachaman before starting. Bathe the idol with Panchamrit mix. Use milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar. Continue with Gangajal. Dress Maa Chandraghanta in a punjabi chunri cloth. Place sandalwood and kumkum for puja. Adorn fresh flowers and garlands. Light incense and a ghee lamp, dipping/ waving it clockwise and in the air. Light the bhog (not in new festivals), prepare betel nuts.

Repeat the mantra with love and devotion. Read the Durga Saptashati stotras with intention. Ask someone to read or recite aarti by holding the diya and/or Indian camphor. Sing her aarti song with love. Dip your thali around the idol of Maa Chandraghanta while singing. Walk around 3-7 times when singing, preferably clockwise.
