Mufasa: The Lion King outsines Varun Dhawan’s Baby John. Despite its festive release, Varun Dhawan’s Baby John struggles at the box office since it is overshadowed by other movies. Its dismal performance was attributed to its limited innovation and weak storytelling.
Despite being released during the holiday season, Varun Dhawan’s most recent action-thriller, Baby John, has not been able to hold the attention of viewers. The movie made a solid Rs 11.25 crore at the box office when it debuted on Christmas. But the initial excitement soon faded, and box office receipts steadily decreased. By the New Year holiday, which is usually a good time for the movie business, Baby John only made Rs 2.75 crore on Wednesday, a sign of its declining popularity.
The industry tracker Sacnilk reports that Baby John’s overall Hindi occupancy was only 22.38%, with afternoon shows seeing the largest foot traffic. The movie’s poor success is highlighted by the fact that, after eight days in theaters, its total box office receipts in India stand at Rs 35.40 crore.
The popularity of rival releases makes Baby John’s problems even worse. Even after 28 days in theaters, Pushpa 2, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, is still the biggest hit at the box office. The Sukumar-directed action movie brought in Rs 13.15 crore on Wednesday alone, with its Hindi version contributing Rs 9.5 crore. With an astounding total nett collection of Rs 1184.65 crore in India, the movie has cemented its place as a significant economic success.
In the meantime, Mufasa: The Lion King, a Disney family film, has also done better than Baby John. On Wednesday, the animated movie brought in Rs 9.4 crore, which included Rs 3.5 crore from the Hindi-speaking audience. With a total nett collection of Rs 122.1 crore in India after 13 days of release, Mufasa: The Lion King has proven to be a popular film with people of all ages.
Baby John, which was produced by Atlee, is already dwindling in theaters and is anticipated to end its run shortly. Due to its poor performance, the movie is probably going to be Varun Dhawan’s lowest-grossing work. The film’s inability to connect with audiences has been attributed by critics to poor storytelling and little originality in the action scenes.
