Delicious Millet Breakfast for a Change from Idli and Dosa

Delicious Millet Breakfast:
These days, people are becoming more health-conscious and are including millets in their daily diet. Millets such as ragi, jowar, sama, foxtail, and little millet are now commonly used in breakfast recipes. From idlis and dosas to upma and pongal, millets are helping many maintain a healthy lifestyle while enjoying tasty meals. For those who want a quick and healthy breakfast, we bring a simple millet-based recipe that is nutritious, delicious, and easy to prepare.


Delicious Millet Breakfast:
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup foxtail millet or little millet
    1-2 onions
    2 green chilies
    A small piece of ginger
    1 tsp sesame seeds
    Salt to taste
    2 tbsp oil
    ½ tsp split urad dal
    ½ tsp split chana dal
    ½ tsp mustard seeds
    A pinch of black pepper
    2 curry leaves
    2 dry red chilies

Preparation Method:

 finely chop the onions, green chilies, and ginger. Wash the millet thoroughly and keep it ready. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, dry red chilies, black pepper, and curry leaves. Sauté lightly until aromatic. Next, add the chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger. Cook until the onions turn soft.

Add the washed millet along with enough water and salt to the pan. Stir well and cook on medium flame until the water evaporates and the millet is cooked completely. Once cooked, turn off the stove and let the mixture cool slightly. Shape small balls from the mixture.

Steam these millet balls in an idli steamer for a few minutes until fully cooked. Serve them hot. These millet balls can be enjoyed with any chutney or tomato dal, making them a wholesome and tasty breakfast option.


This healthy millet breakfast is not only nutritious but also delicious and easy to prepare.
