Mohan Babu as Villain Opposite Nani in The Paradise: Battle or Drama?

Mohan Babu in The Paradise: Tollywood is a buzz with excitement as legendary actor Mohan Babu dons the villain’s cape opposite Natural Star Nani in the upcoming film The Paradise. The casting itself has raised expectations to the high heavens because fans are now looking forward to beholding the titanic collision between two powerhouse performers on screen. While Nani has never failed to impress his audience by donning varied shades, Mohan Babu’s towering screen persona, particularly in his avtaar as a villain, promises an interesting depth and intensity to the film.

In the combination: Why it works

In a way, the real strength of The Paradise lies in the contrasting energies. Nani’s loveable, very relatable heroism emotionally touches the younger lot; and all the more, Mohan Babu’s imposing voice and crisp delivery are simply the stuff villain roles are made of, clashing between the two could produce some of the darkest memorable face-off moments in recent Telugu cinema history if crafted well by the writer. After all, for a long-time fan, it is an ‘old’ yet ‘fresh’ feeling to have Mohan Babu back in a menacing role.

The Doubt That Remains

Yet, for all the excitement this jodi stirs in people, the big question that haunts is – will the battle be really even? In many films, those star-studded scripts have substantially favored the hero and reduced the antagonist to an obstacle. There seems to be enough creativity behind Mohan Babu’s stature and acting prowess, and the audience feels one-dimensional representation would be a complete waste. On the contrary, if the director gives enough room to the villain, he could wonderfully cross swords with Nani’s character; and as a result, The Paradise might create a new benchmark in hero-villain dynamics.

Mohan Babu in the role of the villain has certainly added fuel to the fire around The Paradise. Only time will tell if it leads to an agonizing, hair-raising fighting war, or crush and burn in this one-sided drama. What is for sure is that fans are hoping for a generation clash worthy of the hype: a film with both the hero and the villain shining.
