Actress Oviya sparked controversy on social media recently after demanding the arrest of actor-politician Vijay. The viral Instagram story, which followed the recent Karur stampede tragedy controversy surrounding Vijay’s political approach, caught the attention of fans and the public.

In the Instagram story, Oviya advocated for accountability, including law enforcement accountability for arresting Vijay. She posted: “Arrest Vijay”. Yet, her tone and timing were severely criticized. Most of Oviya’s fans labeled her as sensational for writing about accountability without facts, while others felt that it was inappropriate to make comments about a person in public to address a political issue in public. Within a few hours, the post accumulated thousands of reactions, both positivity and criticism.

The outrage was exacerbated when netizens made the point that Oviya’s statements could be taken as a personal insult against Vijay, as opposed to a general observation, which ignited social media outrage. After widespread online criticism, Oviya eventually removed the post. While she failed to give an official explanation or statement for doing so, it appears clear she went out of her way to cool off the criticism and prevent more criticism.
