Why Oversleeping Can Be as Dangerous as Lack of Sleep

Side Effects Of Oversleeping:
We all know that not getting enough sleep is bad for health. But did you know that sleeping too much can also be harmful? A recent study shows that both less sleep and too much sleep are linked to serious health risks, including early death.

Side Effects Of Oversleeping:

Experts explain that sleep is one of the most powerful natural medicines for our body. Normally, adults are advised to sleep between 7 to 8 hours every night. Sleeping less than 7 hours increases the risk of death by 14 percent. Surprisingly, sleeping for 9 or more hours raises the risk by 34 percent. Women are found to be more affected by oversleeping than men.

Dangers of oversleeping

Sleeping more than 9 hours regularly can cause problems like inflammation, early memory loss, and poor brain function. It can also confuse the body’s internal clock, leading to health issues over time.

Why proper sleep matters
According to the American Sleep Foundation, sleep is not just about rest. It helps improve memory, mood, heart health, and metabolism. Poor sleep weakens the immune system, disturbs blood sugar levels, and increases pressure on the heart.

Tips for healthy sleep

1. Fix a routine: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends.
2. Avoid gadgets late at night: Phones, laptops, and TVs disturb sleep. Switch them off at least an hour before bed.
3. Get morning sunlight: Exposure to natural light helps reset your body clock and improves sleep quality.

Most healthy adults need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. Both less and more than this can harm the body. The key is balance and consistency.
