Rishab Shetty Opens Up on Language Controversy at Kantara Event

Rishab Shetty Opens Up on Language Controversy at Kantara Event

Language Controversy at Kantara Event:

Actor and director Rishab Shetty recently faced criticism during the pre-release event of Kantara: Chapter 1 in Hyderabad. While promoting the Telugu version of the film, he chose to speak in Kannada. This decision upset some Telugu audiences, who felt that he should have spoken in their language at the event.

Language Controversy at Kantara Event:

The controversy quickly spread, with many expressing disappointment on social media. To clarify his stand, Rishab addressed the issue at another event. Without directly mentioning the earlier incident, he explained why he often prefers to speak in Kannada.

He said, “I think in Kannada and because of the same, I tend to speak in Kannada. But, I love to learn new languages. When I go to one place and speak, I should not disrespect the language of the land. But, it gets misfired sometimes. But, I am a proud Kannadiga who will think, speak and write in Kannada. Similarly, when I respect Kannada, I also equally respect and love other languages. I respect all the languages and the core of all languages will always be the same. I will try to put effort in speaking other languages.”

Interestingly, Rishab gave this clarification in Hindi, speaking fluently. However, he did not attempt Telugu, which some feel would have connected better with the local audience. This again sparked debate among fans, as Telugu is often easier for Kannada speakers to pick up.

Despite the controversy, excitement around Kantara: Chapter 1 continues to grow. The film, directed and acted by Rishab Shetty, is scheduled to release worldwide on October 2, 2025. Paid premieres are planned for October 1, a day before the official release.

The first Kantara film became a massive success and was praised for its rooted storytelling and cultural authenticity. With the sequel, expectations are even higher. While the language debate created some noise, fans are eagerly waiting to see whether Rishab can recreate the magic on screen once again.
