Recipes to Improve Digestion:
Fasting is an important part of tradition and spirituality, but it often changes eating patterns. Skipping regular meals, eating more root vegetables, and having fewer grains can sometimes cause bloating or constipation. However, by choosing the right recipes, you can enjoy your fast while keeping your stomach light and healthy. Here are seven simple dishes that can help digestion during fasting.
Sweet potatoes are rich in fibre and potassium, which regulate digestion. Mix boiled cubes with rock salt, black pepper, lemon juice, and coriander. Pair with mint chutney for a balanced snack.
Sabudana is filling but can feel heavy. Adding ginger while cooking improves digestion. Cook soaked sabudana with ghee, cumin, chilli, and grated ginger, then finish with roasted peanuts and lemon. This makes it tasty and light.
Arbi can feel dense, but ajwain seeds reduce bloating and add a mild spice. Slice boiled arbi and stir-fry it with ghee, ajwain, and green chilli for a simple, stomach-friendly dish.
Samak, also called “fasting rice,” is high in fibre and easy to digest. Cook it with ghee, cumin, and vegetables like potato or carrot. Serve with curd and lemon for a meal that feels light yet filling.
Curd naturally cools the stomach, and when combined with lauki (bottle gourd), it hydrates and eases digestion. Mix boiled grated lauki with curd, roasted cumin, and rock salt for a refreshing side dish.
Singhara (water chestnut) flour makes light pancakes. Mix the flour with water and ginger, spread it thin on a hot pan, and cook until golden. Serve with mint chutney for a crisp, easy-to-digest option.
Papaya is well known for easing constipation. Cut ripe papaya into cubes, sprinkle with cardamom, and chill. It works as a natural laxative while also providing vitamin C and fibre.
