Munawar Faruqui: Following a gunfight on Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road in New Delhi on Thursday, two members of the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar-Virender Charan gang, who were allegedly assigned to assassinate stand-up comic Munawar Faruqui, were taken into custody. The two, identified as Rahul and Sahil, are said to be from the Haryana towns of Panipat and Bhiwani.
Gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar have reportedly targeted Munawar Faruqui for murder because he made jokes about Hindu gods, according to media reports that quoted anonymous Delhi Police officials. Two gunmen were apprehended by the police’s counter-intelligence section in Delhi, thwarting the scheme.
Rahul and Sahil admitted under questioning that they were in Delhi to target Munawar Faruqui at the direction of Godara and Brar, who are both currently overseas. According to media reports, they had previously scouted the comic in Bengaluru and Mumbai. They even tried an attack there, but it was unsuccessful after Faruqui changed automobiles.

Faruqui has 14.2 million Instagram followers and won the 2024 season of the reality show Bigg Boss. The 33-year-old Faruqui has previously run afoul of the law for his jokes about Hindu deities. Faruqi was arrested in Madhya Pradesh in 2021 under the hate speech statute and detained for more than a month before being released on bail.
The comedian was arrested in 2024 when the Mumbai Police raided an unlicensed hookah bar. Later, he was freed on bond. Rahul was wanted in relation to a triple murder that occurred in Yamunanagar, Haryana, in December 2024. Rahul was shot. To receive treatment, he was brought to a hospital. The officer also said that a motorcycle and firearms used in the altercation were taken into custody.
