Useful 5 Tips to quit smoking

Smoking: Smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable diseases and deaths worldwide. Even though many are aware of its dangers, millions continue to smoke everyday. Tobacco contains more than 7,000 chemicals, out of them hundreds are toxic and at least 70 of them are known to cause death. The immune system, Lungs, Heart and Blood Vessels are damaged severely in the long run. 


Here are 5 basic tips to quit smoking from today

1. Identify and Manage Your Triggers

Smoking is often done when the trigger appears, it can be due to stress or drink habits, it can be triggered during driving as well. For a week keep a journal on when the triggers are happening and observe what’s making you smoke now. Noticing this triggers half the job done. 

 2. Use Nicotine Replacement or Medications

You can use Nicotine patches, gums, and lozenges, nasal sprays or inhalers can be used as withdrawal symptoms. Medications like Varenicline and Bupropion can also be helpful as withdrawal, doctor consultation regarding which to use can be helpful. 

3. Adopt Healthy Substitutes

Eating fruits and vegetables and nuts can be helpful when cravings hit. Drinking plenty of water can help flush out nicotine and toxins faster. Avoiding alcohol and caffeine early on since they can trigger cravings. 

4. Manage Stress Without Smoking

Many people smoke to cope with stress, replace the stress with healthier habits, deep breathing, yoga and meditation can be useful. Taking a short break to listen to music can be helpful. Walking for 10 minutes when the craving hits can be helpful. 

5. Get Support and Stay Accountable

Take help from family and friends, tell them you are trying to quit and their support helps you to stay on track. Join quit smoking groups and you can use online apps when the triggers hit. Celebrate every week and month after quitting, it will help you stay motivated.
