Abhishek Bachchan Reveals 8-Hour Shift Actor: Deepika Padukone’s recent withdrawal from major films like Spirit and Kalki 2 has launched a new discussion on the working culture of Bollywood. Reports had suggested that the actress, now a new mother, preferred to work for 8 hours-a decision some had claimed triggered her exit from these big-budget films. However, the discussion took a different turn when an old interview of Abhishek Bachchan surfaced online, in which he stated that Akshay Kumar has been following it for years.
In a time-lapse video from The Kapil Sharma Show, where Abhishek Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and Riteish Deshmukh had gone to promote a Housefull film, Abhishek jokingly mentioned, “Packing up is the most exciting for Akshay Kumar. He works for not more than 8 hours. He comes to the sets at 7 am, the meter starts.”
Time starts now for Riteish, and Abhishek continues, “If the time’s up, halfway through the shot, we strip and walk out.” The funny video has moved from lightheartedness to now shine the spotlight on the discussion of double standards in the industry.
In a recent interview for CNBC-TV18, Deepika pointed out that several male superstars have enjoyed fixed working hours for years without being subjected to scrutiny. “A lot of male actors have been working only eight hours a day, and that’s never made headlines,” she said.

She insisted that professionalism and structure need to pervade the film industry and stated that it’s time Bollywood began functioning as a true “Industry.”
Deepika’s stance has rekindled a much-needed fire regarding work-life balance and equality in cinema. With voices such as hers leading the charge, Bollywood may indeed stand on the edge of establishing a more organized and sympathetic work culture.
