Due to escalating student anger and school violence, a nation from the south east is contemplating significant policy changes. Such changes would only affect students who are sixteen years of age and younger. Officials say they can draw a direct line to school violence. What they describe is an increase in aggression and bullying episodes. Therefore, the cabinet was prompted to hold an emergency discussion about it.
The government is genuinely concerned about student’s anger. Reports of violent behavior are increasing. School safety has become the number one issue. The Prime Minister himself addressed the issues at hand. During his statement he confirmed the cabinet’s commitment to proposing a proactive recommendation to reduce the incidence of violent behavior in school.
The Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, came out and explicitly stated what the cabinet is doing about the issues. He laid out what the cabinet is officially recommending that could happen immediately. One recommendation is to limit the use of smartphones for students in schools. He provided rationale behind the recommendation. He described how social media and online gaming are both shaping student behavior, and at times provoking violence or criminal behaviors.
The government believes the content students observe online is harmful to their health and state of mind. The government believes the access to this content negatively impacts healthy young minds. Social media can contribute to fueling aggression, as can online gaming, and these technologies may even incite violent tendencies. The belief is that these technologies can be considered behavioral triggers that lead to misconduct occurring in the real world.
The ban has an uncomplicated purpose, that is , to protect students in schools. Establishing a safe learning environment to educate students is important and reducing their digital distractions is one such method. The government is looking to promote greater focus which ought to enhance student behavior.
The ban would focus on smartphones. Students under 16 will be banned from using smartphones. This implies controlling access to social media as well. The government has taken a definitive path forward in this direction. They believe it to be a suitable form of child protection.
