Dhana Triodashi 2025: Is It Compulsory to Buy Gold?

Dhana Triodashi 2025: Women don’t need a special occasion to buy gold or silver. But as prices rise every day, the chance to buy them is becoming harder. Now that Dhana Triodashi (Dhanteras) is here, many are wondering, should we really buy gold on this day? And if not, what are the alternatives?

The Significance of Dhana Triodashi:

Diwali which is also called as Dhanteras in North India and Dhana Triodashi in South India begins on Ashvayuja Bahula Trayodashi. According to the Puranas, Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk on this day when the gods churned it for nectar. There is another belief for this, which says, Goddess Lakshmi comes from Vaikuntha and visits homes that are clean and pure.

That’s why people wake up early, clean their houses, and worship Goddess Lakshmi with devotion. Businessmen start new ventures, some worship Lord Kubera, and others light lamps to keep away negative energies. The day is also celebrated as Dhanvantari Jayanti, marking the birth of the God of Ayurveda.

What Happens If You Can’t Buy Gold:

According to legend, Lord Vishnu declared Mahalakshmi as the Goddess of Wealth. It is believed that worshipping her on this day brings prosperity and long life. Over time, people began believing that buying even a small amount of gold on Dhanteras invites Lakshmi’s blessings. However, this belief has also become a marketing strategy for gold sellers.

With gold, silver, and even copper prices soaring, it’s difficult for many to afford them now. But that doesn’t mean you miss the blessings of Dhanteras.

Auspicious Alternatives to Gold:

1. If you can’t buy gold, you can still buy other sacred items considered forms of Goddess Lakshmi, such as:

2. Salt, turmeric, cumin, coriander, green camphor, broomsticks, and conch shells — all symbolize purity and prosperity.

3. Brass utensils: According to the Bhagavatam, Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the ocean of milk with a pot of nectar. Buying new utensils on this day is believed to bring health and good fortune.

Modern Alternatives:

Instead of rushing to buy gold when you’re having financial instability, you can make smart financial choices today:

1. Invest in mutual funds or gold ETFs. You can also invest in Muhurat Trading, which is a very auspicious time for trading or investing.

2. Buy bonds or fixed deposits.

3. Get home or health insurance to avoid unexpected expenses.

4. Replace old household items with new ones to bring positivity and comfort into your home.

Don’t get trapped in the belief of buying gold today. This is not mandatory, and offering goddess Lakshmi with pure heart and sincere devotion is enough than spending money when there is financial instability. Celebrate this Dhana Triodashi with good intentions, wise choices, and a golden mind filled with positivity and peace.
