Diseases like dengue can cause your platelet levels to drop and consuming the wrong foods can slow healing or even worsen your illness. Certain foods must be avoided altogether and this list provides the information you need to know.

 


Don’t Eat Sugary Foods/Drinks

Staying away from high-sugar foods and beverages is important. Soda and desserts with sugar content are the most common examples. These foods are detrimental to your overall health as they can interfere with the body’s pH levels; possibly increasing inflammation and impeding the body’s natural healing. Instead, choose water and natural juices.

 

Avoid Certain Fruits and Vegetables

Eating certain otherwise healthy foods can be exacerbating. For example, while healthy, blueberries, grapes, and tomatoes can create an environment that does not allow the blood to form clots. Garlic and onions should be severely limited, if not avoided; they can thin the blood considerably especially in large quantities.

 


Don’t Eat Heavy Proteins

You should not eat meat, chicken, and fish. While they both are high in protein, their fat content makes them difficult to digest especially if you are unwell. The consumption of heavy proteins would increase tiredness and your body needs energy to fight off an illness. Instead of heavy protein, consider consuming light proteins, such as dal.

 

Eliminate All Packaged and Junk Foods

Processed foods contain detrimental chemicals that the body is unable to digest effectively, and this requires energy to digest, energy that could otherwise be used for recovery. It is best to eliminate all junk foods entirely. Junk foods provide no nutritional value, and in fact, will impede your recovery coffee.

 

Be mindful of herbs

Ginger and ginseng should be eaten conservatively. These herbs can be blood thinners, so it is best to err on the side of caution.
