JR.NTR: Tollywood’s Man of Masses JR.NTR went to Bollywood and acted alongside Hrithik Roshan in a spy action thriller film ‘WAR ‘2’. Kiara Advani played the female lead in the film. YRF produced this film with a huge budget, Brahmastra fame Ayan Mukerji directed this film.

Flop in theatres

War ‘2’ released in theatres during Independence day with sky high expectations and with a heavy competition from Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’. The film received mixed to negative talk from the opening day itself and did not even recover the breakeven target. 

Hit on OTT platform

Netflix started streaming this film from October 9th. And it is making huge waves on the platform. For the second consecutive week it topped the digital charts as the most watched film in India. 

Viewership 

War ‘2’ gained 3.5 million views in the first week, then from October 13th to 19th the number grew to 5.3 million views. War ‘2’ is leading by 3 million views compared to Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’. War ‘2’ is currently the number one film on OTT in India. 

Future of Spy universe

Yash Raj films started a spy universe by linking all of their best characters, Salmaan Khan’s Tiger films and Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ along with Hrithik’s Kabir in War. All these characters are part of this big spy universe Yash Raj is trying to build. 

Now with this flop will this spy universe expand or the production house calls enough is enough. Although it is already reported that Alia Bhatt is shooting for an action film titled ‘Alpha’ in this spy universe.

Shelved JR.NTR film?

Before the release of War ‘2’, it is reported that JR.NTR was supposed to act in an individual film under this spy universe. But after this debacle of War ‘2’, Yash Raj reportedly shelved the idea of this standalone film.
