Thamma Day 1 Early Box Office Collections: The horror-comedy Thamma, starring Rashmika Mandanna, was released to high expectations on Tuesday. The film is another addition to the Maddock Films co-produced horror-comedy universe started by Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik. Despite the pre-release buzz, the extravagant ₹140 crores budget tells a different story about the wonderful opening day for the film; hence its performance at the ticket counter seems mixed.
Early estimates suggest that on its first day, Thamma collected ₹13.01 crore (net) all across languages in India. The film saw bullish occupancy in the major metros of Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai for evening shows, while it was lagging in some smaller circuits. The festive season release earns Thamma a mid-level status-neither a weak opener nor a thunderous blockbuster debut.
While this quirkiness of combining comedy and supernatural themes certainly did appeal to the cosmopolitan crowd, the marketing campaign could also accentuate the low key in comparison to other heavyweights, which might have worked against its initial haul.
Can Thamma Break Even with This Start?
With a production cost reportedly of about ₹140 crores, it will no doubt be a steep climb for Thamma to reach profitability. This weekend trend will be crucial for a film of this size. Provided that word-of-mouth stays mostly positive, a good hold over the next 3-4 days and a domestic total exceeding ₹45-50 crores would equal a fair chance of recovery for it.
But, in case the collections somehow remain steady but don’t skyrocket, then they are looking at hard work just to reach break-even. The overseas and streaming rights may eventually underwrite its theatrical leg, but really, this is about the theatre.

Can it Break-Even?
With the opening being decent but not explosive, Thamma is in with a fighting chance owing to the charisma of Rashmika Mandanna and the brand power given to it by Maddock Films. It needs to generate strong numbers over the weekend in order to remain in contention.
