The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced fingerprint and face authentication to use the UPI payment method. You will no longer need your PIN number for payments. This process will speed up payments and improve overall security. This will be especially useful for seniors. Fraud detection will also be much better than the past process.
First, you will need to update your UPI application complete. After this, you can open any payments app you use. Then go into the settings or profile section. Look for the option to enable biometric authentication. Then choose the “face unlock” option for payments.
Finally, enter your current UPI PIN to confirm who you are. Your biometric is now set up and you can use it right after you are done reading this. The setup will take 2 minutes at the most and you will be good to go.
First, open your UPI app. You will want to initiate payments to any contact. From there, you will enter what payment amount you want to send them. Upon prompt, select “Use Biometric” payments. Then lay your finger on the touch sensor.
Your phone will read your fingerprint. You will need to keep your finger still while it reads. You will automatically hear it go through and you will receive a confirmation after verification. The ease of the use of this process felt very seamless.
Now, we will include how to pay using face ID. Again, start any UPI payment like normally do. Enter in the payment amount. When prompted, select “Use Face ID” for face recognition. You will want to place your eyes directly toward the front camera. You may be prompted to blink naturally.
Your device scans your face. The payment is verified in two seconds. Touchless interaction is not required. Works great for daytime use. Indoor lighting works as well.
Your biometric data is stored on your device. No companies or third parties are ever allowed to access the information you provide. A new biometric verification is used for each payment. This prevents possible transactions each time. Your financial information is completely secure.
You will never forget your biometric information. Daily payment method is faster and quicker. No deliberations of numbers or remembering PINs. Also helps people who suffer from short- and long-term memory loss. Everyone has a more efficient experience.
UPI usage is prevalent in digital payments in India. Since 2019, transaction volume has shot up dramatically. Volume has increased by 16 times. Value has also increased by 13 times. Payment interactions using biometrics will accelerate this growth.
More banks will eventually embrace this technology. More authentication methods may develop. Voice recognition is potentially already in development. There will also be an evolving system that will continue to develop. Digital payments will be less and less difficult.
Use lighting that allows a defined picture of your face to be scanned. Always ensure the fingerprint sensor is always clean. Update the phone’s OS to newest version. Contact customer service if your biometrics do not work intermittently. They will resolve the issues most of the time quickly.
Biometric payments are a step towards progress. They are a combination of convenience and security. It will take one or two minutes to set up. However, your payment process will be increasingly reliable and more positive as time goes by. Start using this feature today.
