School Holidays State-Wise List: Chhath Puja, Cyclone Month Bring Extended Breaks

School Holidays State-Wise List: Because festivals and weather conditions overlap in different regions of India, school holidays have been declared in various states this week. Ranging from celebrations such as Chhath Puja and Diwali to closure owing to Cyclone Montha, students in various states are having a long break.


School Holidays State-Wise List:

Bihar: Seven-Day Holiday for Chhath Puja

In Bihar, Chhath Puja holds a tremendous religious and cultural significance. For facilitating families to take part in the rituals and festivities, all schools within the state will remain closed through October 29.
The fest season began on October 18, including celebrations of both Diwali and Chhath. Schools and colleges resume on October 30, ending a seven-day festival holiday. The decision has been made to provide easy celebration in rural and urban areas.


Delhi: Day’s Break for Schools and Colleges

In the capital city, all schools in Delhi will remain shut tomorrow, Monday, October 27, 2025. Though this is mainly to honor the Chhath Puja festivities by most people in the city, it also aims to manage expected turnout crowds at ghats and water bodies.
Majority of private colleges will also have to stay shut, in line with the same directive for the day. Regular classes are to be resumed from Tuesday, October 28.

West Bengal: October 27: Schools Closed

There shall be a holiday at school on October 27, as declared by the government of West Bengal, with citizens in the northern states of India beginning festivities for the Chhath Puja 2025.
Although the festival is not usually common all over the state, there are some locations having migrant populations from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh observing the festival with religious zeal.

Andhra Pradesh: Weather-Induced Closure in Select Districts

In Andhra Pradesh (A.P.), schools in East Godavari and Guntur district will be shut for three days . October 27, 28, and 29 due to the approaching Cyclone Montha. Warnings have been sounded and residents have been advised to remain indoors as a preventive measure.

Uttar Pradesh: Chhath Puja Holiday for One Day

Schools in Uttar Pradesh will be closed on Monday, October 27, 2025, as part of Chhath Puja. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the state, particularly in eastern regions. Classes are expected to resume on Tuesday, October 28.
