IKEA has just launched a one-of-a-kind mini bed, which is intended for smartphones. This initiative is a combination of technology and lifestyle that seeks to better your sleep habits.
IKEA is working to combat the habit of scrolling on your phone after bed time. Many people scroll on their phones before sleeping, which impacts their quality of sleep. The mini bed provides a cute solution to the habit of scrolling—now you can “tuck your phone in” for the night.
The mini bed resembles a typical piece of IKEA furniture. It has a mini mattress with a mini blanket. There is also an NFC chip inside that syncs with an app. Once you place your phone on the mini bed, it activates the NFC chip. The NFC chip enables the Do Not Disturb mode.
You there is a function within the app that tracks your phone’s sleep habits. The app will note how long the phone stayed put. It functions similar to a sleep tracker, while also promoting a healthy digital detox routine.
As part of the campaign, IKEA is running a challenge called the seven-night challenge. To participate, one must refrain from using their phone for seven nights, while ensuring that their phone is with them and place on the mini bed for seven hours per night. Participants that are able to complete the challenge will receive rewards.
Those that complete the challenge will receive an IKEA voucher or shopping credits. The voucher is valued at up to 100 AED. You can use it at any IKEA location. This adds an element of fun and excitement.
Digital Wellness Initiative
This is more than just an amusing campaign to sleep on a tiny bed; it is an intelligent digital wellbeing initiative! IKEA aims to ameliorate sleep health, and guides you to step away from devices.
You cannot buy the phone bed directly. You must shop at an IKEA store first. A purchase of at least 750 AED is required. That is roughly 18,000 Indian rupees.
