School Holiday Today:
As November begins, students and parents across India are eagerly waiting for school holidays. The weather and festival season have brought some unexpected breaks. Today, November 8, schools in a few states have declared a holiday, while others will continue as usual.
According to government education calendars, November 8, 2025 (Saturday), is not a national holiday for schools in India. However, holidays differ from one state to another depending on local customs, festivals, or weather conditions. Some schools observe second Saturday as a regular weekly off, while others have declared special holidays due to heavy rainfall or regional festivals.
Karnataka: Optional Holiday Observed
In Karnataka, November 8 is considered an auspicious day for Lord Vishnu. Many devotees fast and visit temples to offer prayers. Although the state government has not officially declared a public holiday, several private and government schools have chosen to use their optional holiday. Students in these schools can enjoy an extended weekend with family and friends.
Tamil Nadu: Schools Closed Due to Heavy Rains
Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning till November 11 due to a severe cyclone near the coast. The Tamil Nadu government has therefore announced holidays for government and private schools in rain-affected districts, especially Chennai and nearby coastal areas. Officials have also urged residents to stay indoors unless necessary for safety reasons.
Parents Advised to Check Official Notices
Since school holidays vary across regions, it is best for parents and students to verify the information from their local education department or school authorities.
With festivals, weather changes, and safety measures coming together, students are getting some much-needed breaks this November.
