According to the report, “123456” remains the most used password in 2025, followed by “12345678” and “123456789.” These three alone were used by millions of users worldwide.

Other common entries in the top ten include “admin,” “password,” “12345,” “Aa123456,” “1234,” “123,” and “1234567890.” Experts say these passwords are so weak that hackers can crack them within seconds using basic tools.

Report Highlights Weak Password Habits

The Comparitech analysis showed that 25% of passwords contained only numbers, and nearly 39% included the easy sequence “123.” Only about 4% of users created unique combinations of letters, symbol and numbers.

The word “admin” appeared in nearly 3% of all leaked passwords, while simple words like “qwerty” and “welcome” were also found among the top 1,000.

Surprising Password Trends

Interestingly, the word “Minecraft” appeared around 90,000 times, earning a spot in the top 100 passwords of 2025. The password “India@123” ranked 53rd, showing how often users rely on predictable words tied to their country or interests.

Experts warn that 65.8% of passwords used worldwide are less than 12 characters long, making them extremely easy to hack.

How to Create a Strong Password

Cyber experts recommend using at least 12–16 characters combining uppercase, lowercase letters, numbers and special symbols. Avoid personal details like birthdays, names, or phone numbers. Never use dictionary words alone, since hackers use automated tools to guess such passwords.

A strong password protects you from data breaches, cyberattacks, and online theft. If you use any of the weak passwords mentioned above, change it immediately before it’s too late.
