The protest took place near Vels Film City, where more than 100 police officers were deployed to maintain law and order. Demonstrators carried effigies of actor Vijay Sethupathi, which they later burned in protest against the ongoing season of Bigg Boss Tamil. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), an ally of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accused the channel and producers of promoting vulgarity for commercial gain.
TVK leader and MLA Velmurugan alleged that Bigg Boss Tamil includes “inappropriate body gestures, kissing, and bedroom scenes” that are unfit for family viewing. He questioned the ethics of Vijay TV, asking whether the channel should earn money by broadcasting such “indecent and low-standard content.”
Velmurugan further stated that the show’s makers are disregarding its negative cultural influence. He said he has already raised the issue with Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Appavu and urged that it be discussed in the Assembly. He also warned that if the Speaker, Chief Minister, and IT & Broadcast departments fail to take action, TVK will organize a massive protest inside the Bigg Boss set and at the Vijay Television office, with thousands of women expected to participate.
Currently, Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 is being aired on Vijay TV, featuring 24 contestants at the beginning of the season. So far, six contestants have been evicted, and one voluntarily exited the show. Actor Vijay Sethupathi has returned as the host for the second consecutive time this season.
