Lack of Water Causes Body Pain: How Much Water You Should Drink Each Day

Adequate water is necessary to keep your body healthy and functioning. Low amounts of water affect many different functions of organs, can cause pain, and lead to numerous health problems. This is why experts recommend drinking water throughout the day. Staying hydrated keeps your body functioning smoothly throughout the day.

Pain from not Drinking Enough Water:

Denying your body water can lead to pain throughout your body. Different body parts will signal that your water intake is low, and many people tend to ignore those signals, but your body will continue to send signals that your water intake is low.

Stomach Pain:

One of the first signs of not drinking enough water is stomach pain, which is caused by the sudden removal of volume in your stomach. Your body requires adequate amounts of water in order to eliminate toxins, therefore if you are dehydrated, you are putting yourself at risk for kidney stones, which often leads to sharp, sudden pain in the stomach or lower abdomen; sudden and severe pain is often associated with renal calculi (kidney stones).

Headaches:

Another common sign of dehydration is headaches. When your body is deprived of water, your brain literally shrinks temporarily causing pressure and pain in around your brain. Drinking water will usually resolve almost immediately.

Joint Pain:

Joints require body fluid for lubrication which decreases as your water intake dwindles. Joint pain often leads to stiffness, which is the body’s way of trying to heal. Dehydration may eventually compromise bone health leaving you at a higher risk for injury. If you are dehydrating for an extended period of time you can impact your muscle and bone health which further complicates many movements you may take for granted. You may feel weakness and pain.

Other Signs of Dehydration

Dehydration does not only cause pain. It also creates several other symptoms. You may feel tired and dizzy. Your mouth may feel dry. Your urine may turn dark yellow. And your skin may also look dull. These signs warn you to drink more water.

Healthy Hydrating Options

Water is the best option for hydration. But you can also drink other healthy liquids. Coconut water helps restore minerals. Fresh juices add vitamins. Lassi supports digestion. These drinks support your hydration levels. They also add nutrients to your diet.

How Much Water You Should Drink

You should drink 2 to 3 liters of water daily. This equals about 12 glasses. People who work outdoors may need more water. Your body loses more water during heat or physical work. You must replace this loss.

Benefits of Drinking Enough Water

Adequate hydration supports digestion. It improves gut health. Water helps with weight loss by boosting metabolism. It increases energy levels. It also helps flush toxins from your kidneys and liver. Water plays a major role in overall health.
