Boyapati Srinu Remuneration for Akhanda 2: Director Boyapati Srinu is again in the news—not for some film announcement but for the huge sums of money he is reportedly charging for Akhanda 2. In the film industry, it is commonplace for directors to see their fees plummet after a commercial failure; Boyapati Srinu seems to have developed a penchant for scripting a fresh set of rules. By all accounts, however, irrespective of Skanda’s woeful performance at the box office, news of this extraordinary doubling of remuneration has left fans and industry insiders aghast.
The laws have it that one experiences a dip in one’s market value after facing setbacks. But Boyapati Srinu has managed to protect his reputation as a very strong brand owing to his continuously entertaining mass appeal and his loyal audience base. The last successful outing, Akhanda, with Balakrishna helped cement that trust; after that, Akhanda 2 getting announced just skyrocketed the expectations and negotiations.
In Skanda, Boyapati reportedly pocketed around ₹16 crore, and that remuneration is widely believed to be1among the highest given to any Telugu director. What he secured for Akhanda 2 has raised eyebrows right across Tollywood.
For Akhanda 2, instead of a fixed remuneration, Boyapati Srinu is also said to have gained very lucrative arrangements vis- -vis a huge share from the non-theatrical earnings-streaming, satellite, audio, and digital rights. The deal amounts to ₹36 crores, over 2 times his remuneration on Skanda.
Such a strategic approach works for the director himself and for the production house. It reduces the cost of production initially while letting Boyapati go out and give a bet on his own brand. With Akhanda being a massive OTT and satellite ex-hit even after a theatrical run, the makers are very sure of strong non-theatrical demand for Akhanda 2.
Boyapati Srinu films, no matter how badly reviewed they are, are known to provide heavy-duty mass moments, high-voltage action, and big B&C center openings. His brand value, especially with Balakrishna, is yet to have a parallel. The producers are betting on that magic to bring back the Akhanda phenomenon.
