Did Thaman Copy Again for The Raja Saab’s First Song?

The Rebel Saab Song Copied: Music director Thaman has entertained audiences for years, sometimes with his catchy songs and sometimes with his powerful background scores. But recently, he has been facing a wave of trolling for the songs in his upcoming films. Why is this happening?

Thaman delivered exceptional music for four consecutive films starring Natasimha Balakrishna, earning the nickname “Nandamuri Thaman.” However, the title song of Akhanda 2, which fans had huge expectations for, did not receive the expected response. Songs like “Jajikaya…” also failed to impress, leaving fans disappointed and wondering what went wrong with Thaman. Many hoped that even if the songs did not click, the background score would at least stand out. But the trolling increased after the release of the song “Rebel Saab… Rebel Saab…” from Prabhas’ upcoming film The Raja Saab. Listeners felt that the tune sounded very similar to “Run It Up” by Hanuman Kind, Kalmi, leading to more accusations of copying.

Over the years, people have often pointed out that some of Thaman’s tunes resemble other songs. However, he repeatedly proved himself by delivering blockbuster albums. In 2020, he composed chartbusters for Ala Vaikunthapuramulo, winning the National Award for Best Music Director. In 2021, he impressed with Akhanda and Krack. In 2022, he delivered Bheemla Nayak and Sarkaru Vaari Paata. In 2023, he gave hits like Veerasimha Reddy and Bhagavanth Kesari. His recent films include Guntur Kaaram (2024) and Game Changer, and Daku Maharaj (2025). Because of these successes, the “copycat” tag never affected him much.

But now, with back-to-back criticisms for major star films like Prabhas’ The Raja Saab and Balayya’s Akhanda 2, netizens have started trolling him again. Meanwhile, Ram Charan’s “Chikiri…” song from Peddi, composed by A.R. Rahman, is trending past 100 million views, and “Meesala Pilla…” from Mana Shankara Varapasad Garu, composed by Bheems, has crossed 50 million views. In comparison, Thaman’s recent tunes have not created the same impact. With Akhanda 2 releasing on December 5 and The Raja Saab arriving on January 9, fans hope Thaman delivers powerful background music and standout songs. All eyes are now on what Thaman will do next.
