The viewers alleged that he did not pay much heed to the sensibility associated with the significance of the particular shot. There were many responses, stating how the film is deeply entrenched in rich traditions of coastal Karnataka, especially that of the divine, ritual arts that require authenticity and respect, i.e., context awareness, none of which Ranveer’s performance showed.

The attack took a virulent turn when netizens accused Ranveer of having a “superiority complex.” While some said his performance trivialized an important culture-specific ritual, it made dramatic rock theater of another. Others observed that the concerning act hinted at something more deeply rooted: Bollywood largely alienating or misrepresenting regional identities.

According to critics, one may try their hand at mouthing a regional source only in case the borrower’s sensitivity and effort to grasp cultural roots are also evidenced in it rather than do it haphazardly.
