8 Signs Your Skin Barrier Is Damaged: How to Fix It

Skin Barrier Damaged: The skin barrier is the armor against any manner of stress inflicted upon the body, be it extreme heat, pollutants, or chemicals. Damage to the skin barrier may eventually cause persistence of sensitivity of the skin, leaky skin, along with the recurrence of any number of irritating problems. Hence, it becomes even more important to know how to identify the signs and symptoms of an affected skin barrier for early detection and future planning of intervention for the skin’s restoration back to health.

1. Extremely Dry Skin

Very dry skin is one of the first signs to indicate onsetting disruption to the barrier. If your skin still feels tight, dry, or rough after some hydrating, then your skin surely needs an intense rehydrating restoration.

Cure: With a barrier-restoring humectant that is non-irritating, containing ceramide and hyaluronic acid.

2. Redness and Swelling

The characteristic redness, patches, or just about any other worry concerning inflammatory condition evidences skin barrier breakdown. The skin becomes hyper-reactive to certain products which it otherwise-and-by now would have-heavily tolerated.

Cure: Use fragrance-free products with soothing emollients like Aloe vera and panthenol. Stop all forms of exfoliation for now.

3. Heightened Sensitivity

This symptom of burning, tingling, or an itchy feeling arising on the application of some previously tolerated product is yet another indicator of barrier damage.

Cure: Avoid using actives such as retinol or acids; rather mix with barrier repair creams.

4. Breakouts a Lot

With an increasing patch or oiliness is an increased number of breakouts, all are caused due to deteriorated barrier function.

Cure: During barrier repair, use a gentle foaming cleanser together with a non-comedogenic moisturizer.

5. Dullness and Uneven Texture

Dullness and uneven textures arise from moisture loss and lipid depletion.

7. Flaking or Peeling

Flaking is one of the signs of barrier dehydrated and dysfunctional.

Cure: Layer moisture during the day and seal it at night.

8. Slow to Heal

Delayed healing of cuts and blemishes represents a somewhat damaged barrier.

Cure: Focus on the repairs with barrier-repairing actives such as ceramides, niacinamide, and fatty acids.

Adhere to the regimen: Protect against harsh weather, do not over-exfoliate, and moisturize. A well-formed barrier protection state means good skin health during the day, bright at night.
