Rehman Dakait Real Story: Many viewers have praised Akshaye Khanna’s performance as the ominous Rehman Baloch in Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar, pointing out that the real-life character was even more terrifying than his on-screen persona. The film stars Ranveer Singh, but Khanna’s terrifying performance has drawn the public’s attention and rekindled interest in the Karachi mobster who once ruled Lyari.

Dhurandhar, which is set in Karachi in the chaotic late 2000s, is a loose adaptation of events from India’s clandestine operations in Pakistan. Based on the life of one of Pakistan’s most infamous underworld characters, Khanna’s character, Rehman Dakait, is at the center of Lyari’s criminal network.

Crime Lord from Lyari: Rehman Dakait

Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch, also referred to as Rehman Dakait, emerged from Lyari’s congested, violent streets. He was born in 1975 into a family with strong criminal connections, was involved in the drug trade as a young lad, and was only in his teens when he was suspected of stabbing a guy. This was the first incident that proved his reputation as a violent criminal. Reports from that era state that at the age of 19, Rehman strangled his mother and hung her from a ceiling fan, one of his most horrific crimes. Dhurandhar uses artistic license to recreate the event, highlighting the darkness that influenced his formative years.

Later, in the late 1990s, Rehman joined Haji Laloo’s group and took over once Laloo was arrested in 2001. Rehman turned Lyari into an empire of extortion, trafficking, contract assassinations, and political influence, with Baba Ladla serving as a crucial enforcer and Uzair Baloch, played by Danish Pandor in the movie, serving as his second-in-command. As per the media reports and some graphic stories that circulated in the media pages, Rehman would order his associates Baba Ladla and Uzair, to play football with the severed heads of rival gang members. This horrific act was to prove and show his authority.

Rehman Dakait Death Story:
In August 2009, Rehman Dakait’s criminal career came to an end when he was shot and killed by Karachi Police during an operation aimed at Lyari gangs. He was thirty-four. After his passing, his cousin Uzair Baloch took over as head, carrying on the network Rehman had established. Long after the encounter, controversy continued. Rival stories stated that the incident might have been staged to stop his increasing influence, despite police maintaining that he was killed in a gunfight.
