Rapido Rider: With a video appearing of a woman being carried nearly semi-conscious in the rear seat of a Rapido bike taxi by a rider claimed to be drunk, the terrible incident that reportedly happened late on a Friday evening in Mangolpuri, New Delhi, has gone viral. Shared widely on Instagram, the video elicited loud responses online; some questioned women’s safety, public responsibility, and the role of the service providers.
The Rapido character of the movie showed how the rider was cradling the woman’s body with his other hand as she kept slipping into the roadway from the taxi. Nevertheless, the victim is completely unconscious as the taxi attempts to keep her stable and aid her. At one point, the man recording the video could be heard yelling, “Let her go, let her fall down,” but the rider ignored him and kept trying to resurrect her.
According to witnesses, the rider repeatedly instructed the woman to sit up but she kept sliding down due to her unconsciousness. She lost her fight against gravity a few minutes later. Before she struck the roadway, the rider caught her and set her down to reduce any damage.
Discussions on social media made the video a hot subject. Users have praised the Rapido rider for attempting to shield the woman, labeling him “humane” and “responsible.” The bystander filming the occurrence was criticized by the others for pushing the rider to let her fall rather than to assist.
The video started conversations on the risks women traveling alone late at night face. Some consumers have noted the need for increased safety precautions as well as the need for responsible conduct on the side of the customers and the service providers.
Though the video is swarming the Internet with calls for more awareness and support for travelers in need, no authorities have yet reacted on the incident.
