Golden Jaggery vs Organic Jaggery: Know the Real Difference Before You Buy

Golden Jaggery vs Organic Jaggery: Know the Real Difference Before You Buy

Golden Jaggery vs Organic Jaggery:

Today, many people choose jaggery instead of white sugar because it is considered healthier. But do you know that all jaggery sold in the market is not pure? Many people think that shiny golden jaggery is the best. But experts warn that this bright color can be a sign of chemicals.

Golden Jaggery vs Organic Jaggery:

Chemical jaggery usually looks very bright yellow or golden in color. This shine comes from chemicals like sulfur dioxide used during cleaning. On the other hand, organic jaggery looks dark brown or blackish-brown. It does not have any artificial shine. Its dull appearance is actually a sign that it is natural and safe.

The texture of jaggery also tells a lot. Organic jaggery is soft and slightly sticky. When you break it, it does not crack into sharp pieces. Instead, it breaks gently into layers. Chemical jaggery is very hard and breaks into small crystal-like pieces. Many people believe hard jaggery is pure, but this is not true.

Taste is another important clue. Organic jaggery has a natural sugarcane flavor with a slight iron taste because it contains minerals. Chemical jaggery tastes only sweet and flat. Sometimes it even leaves a bitter or salty taste in the mouth.

You can also test jaggery at home. Put a small piece of jaggery in a glass of water. If it fully dissolves without leaving any residue, it is most likely organic. If white or gray powder settles at the bottom, it may contain chemicals like lime or cleaning agents.

Organic jaggery is made using traditional methods without adding harmful substances. This process takes more time and effort. That is why organic jaggery usually costs a little more than regular jaggery. Experts say that choosing cheap, shiny jaggery can harm your health in the long run.

Always buy jaggery from trusted shops. If possible, choose jaggery that has organic certification. Read the label carefully. Pure jaggery should only contain sugarcane juice or molasses. If you see chemical names on the label, it is better to avoid it.

Your health is more valuable than saving a few rupees. Choose natural, stay healthy.
