India’s 2024 Cancer Report: The Lok Sabha on December 5, 2025, recently showed data regarding the incidence of cancer by states in India. The statistics presented above showing the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) projected population reveal areas with greatly more cancer cases per lakh people than the national average.
With 170 and 169 instances per lakh people, respectively, Kerala and Mizoram have the greatest cancer incidence in India. Such statistics are far above the national average of 109 cases per lakh, and call question-mark on the perhaps contributing environmental, lifestyle, and genetic variables.
Although Kerala’s ageing population and sophisticated detecting methods are sometimes cited as the cause, Mizoram has long been recording a rise in malignancies as a result of its tobacco use and dietary habits.
Many other states also noted extremely high case counts:
144 cases per lakh in Andhra Pradesh
Punjab: 137 cases per lakh
131 instances per lakh in Delhi
These states have always been among the locations of great cancer incidence. These figures may be affected by variables including Delhi’s pollution levels and lifestyle-related hazards in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.
Though still over the national average, Tamil Nadu with 128 cases per lakh is below this high-incidence classification.
Some of the bigger states reported lower occurrences:
Maharashtra: 100
Madhya Pradesh: 98
Uttar Pradesh: 93
Though among the bigger ones, these states lag the national average. They also mostly experience lesser detection rates and constrained access to screening and late diagnosis.
India urgently needs better oncological infrastructure, screening initiatives, and lifestyle awareness in light of real cancer cases documented in 2024. Many states have recorded over 130 cases per lakh of the population; therefore, aimed health initiatives with early detection tools remain essential to reduce death in the years ahead.
