Imtiaz Ali came to Instagram on October 28 to repost a fan post about Diljit Dosanjh’s recent performance at his Delhi concert. In a video posted on his Instagram story, Diljit may be seen performing the original song Pehle Lalkare by late folk artist Amar Singh Chamkila during a concert.
The singer is wearing a white suit and a black jacket. He complemented it with a white turban.
Imtiaz tagged Diljit, saying, “Rocking the country.”
Diljit Dosanjh performed for two days in Delhi, on October 26 and 27. His concert took place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the national capital. Diljit will play in Jaipur on November 3, then in Chandigarh, Guwahati, Pune, Indore, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad.
Imtiaz Ali has been very vociferous about his decision to cast Diljit Dosanjh in his directorial debut, Amar Singh Chamkila. Imtiaz previously told Mid-Day an anecdote about offering Diljit the eponymous part. The filmmaker stated that the singer-actor told him a narrative about his 2023 film, Jodi, before signing the biographical drama.
According to Imtiaz, Diljit made him watch some scenes from Jodi and asked him to judge if he was the appropriate match for the character in Amar Singh Chamkila. The film, based on the life of the late folk artist Amar Singh Chamkila, aired on Netflix on April 12. Amar Singh Chamkila starred Parineeti Chopra as Diljit’s on-screen second wife, Amarjot Kaur.
Imtiaz Ali made his directorial debut with the 2005 film Socha Na Tha, starring Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia. Imtiaz has also directed films including Jab We Met, Highway, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Rockstar, Tamasha, and Love Aaj Kal.
He also authored the screenplay for his brother, filmmaker Sajid Ali’s film Laila Majnu, which came out in 2018.
