After Oscars Loss, Will ‘Laapataa Ladies’ Win at Japan’s Academy Film Awards? Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan’s production masterpiece Laapataa Ladies has been selected for the Japan Academy Film Award. It is competing with other films like Oppenheimer, Zone of Interest and Poor Things. Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao directed Laapataa Ladies. The film addresses the minor issues faced by Indian women which has a bigger impact and consequences. It speaks about women’s rights and education. On 23rd September 2024, Laapataa Ladies made its way to the nominations for the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. The winner of the Best International Film will be announced during the awards ceremony on March 14.
Apart from ‘Laapataa Ladies’, other notable films which also won Oscars are in the race along with Aamir Khan’s Laapataa Ladies. The films competing in this category include Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things’, Jonathan Glazer’s ‘The Zone of Interest’ and Alex Garland’s ‘Civil War’. Presented by Jio Studios, laapataa Ladies was directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. On the other hand, The film’s screenplay was written by Biplab Goswami. The dialogues are written by Sneha Desai, while additional dialogues are written by Divyanidhi Sharma.

Further highlighting the global influence of Indian cinema.On behalf of Indian fans, Aamir Khan guessed how they would react if the movie won an Academy Award. He said, “Indians are so film crazy, and we have been dying to win an Academy Award for an Indian film. Which hasn’t happened till now. So the country would go ballistic. They’ll just go mad if we win. Just for the people of our country, I’d be very happy if we win the award.” The film also stars new faces from the industry including Nitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta, Ravi Kishan, Sparsh Shrivastava and Chhaya Kadam among others in pivotal roles.
