Alia Bhatt Filmfare Win: Alia Bhatt has hit the news again by securing her sixth Filmfare Award for Best Actress for Jigra. With this award, she now enters the ranks of icons like Nutan and Meena Kumari, being awarded in her decade of career. But as her fandom celebrated her, online attack soon poured down questioning her merit for the award.
Alia made an Instagram post thanking everyone while posting glimpses from BTS of Jigra. Her heartfelt note went on to say that the film would forever be close to her heart, telling the story behind the “incredible people who gave it life.” She expressed her gratitude to the director, Vasan Bala, another co-star, and the Filmfare for the honor while regretting not being able to make it on the day.
She also noted how it felt like a “full circle moment” bringing all her mentors and collaborators in production together, including Karan Johar and, aptly referred to, Shaheen Bhatt, her “real-life Jigra.” Her concluding lines that had a poetic Punjabi feel to them etched out her gratefulness and emotional pulse of the film.
Justice was well served by Alia in her post, which received mixed views in the social media sphere. Numerous discussions on Reddit suggested that these repeated wins may be due to the industry agenda rather than merit, calling the Filmfare results “predictable” and “influenced” instead. Some thought that although Alia is a talented performer, Jigra was not the best showcase of her talents.

Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra is a tale of bravery and sisterhood. The movie has an emotional arc but it opened modestly, collecting ₹4.25 crore. Which is one of the lowest openings for Alia in recent years. But be it numbers or noise, Alia’s heartfelt appreciation proves how Jigra was more for her than just a film, it was a deeply personal experience.
