Anurag Basu’s Surprising Insights: Is Indian Cinema Failing Globally? Filmmaker Anurag Basu was recently seen comparing Korean cinema and Indian cinema in terms of global audience. He said that we still have a long way to go in terms of the global audience. He felt there was a lack of a global audience for Bollywood films. During the interview, he compared Hindi films to the Korean film industry. Anurag Basu said that Indian cinema still has a long way to go in this matter. Anurag Basu is currently busy in the pre-production of the film ‘Aashiqui 3’. He candidly spoke about the current state of Bollywood in the global cinematic landscape.
In a conversation with news agency ANI, Anurag Basu said, “Despite getting a lot of praise for films like ‘All We Imagine As Light’ and ‘Anuja’ on the global platform, it seems that there is still a lot to achieve on the global stage. I think mainstream Indian cinema is primarily made keeping in mind the Indian diaspora and audience. The industry has progressed, but it still has to go a long way.”
In a conversation with ANI, Anurag Basu said, ‘I think world cinema is paying attention to our films. But it also seems that we still have a long way to go, because mainstream cinema still keeps in mind the Indian diaspora and Indian audience. We are still far behind in getting a global audience. We get only an Indian audience globally. We have to move ahead in this matter too’. During this, he also compared the Indian industry with the Korean industry.
Anurag Basu said, ‘We only keep in mind the Indian audience. We are as young as the Korean film industry, but they have a global audience. People watch their films, we watch their films. Only Indians watch our films. There are very few people who are passionate about cinema. We do not keep in mind the global audience. We only care about Friday, Saturday and Sunday, weekend, 100 crores, 500 crores, that’s it. Anurag Basu also shared an update on Kartik Aaryan starrer ‘Aashiqui 3’. He said, ‘We haven’t started shooting yet. We will start shooting next month.’
