Arjun Kapoor: The Internet’s Unfair Target?

Arjun Kapoor: The Internet’s Unfair Target?

Arjun Kapoor: The emergence of online “roasting” culture has blurred the line between humor and cruelty. Originally light jokes, what has turned into an all-poisonous habit of being publicly ridiculed passed under the guise of wit. Specially, Arjun Kapoor has repeatedly fallen prey to the game, and now it has crossed the limit of being funny.

Roasting Turns to Bullying

What makes one a trend in social media is unfortunately just trolling. Every post, video, or picture should bring in several comments that would have been meant to sound “edgy” or “funny,” but most of them come across as outright bullying. If people do not like something and so take a screenshot and post it, meme sites magnify the hate.

It is very contradictory today to see people endorsing mental health awareness on one hand and at the other side cyberbullying. For some time now, Arjun Kapoor’s been not seen in films and not been spotted at events happening publicly. But people are fond of using his name more than that of his work.

Remember being human.

But is that any reason to continue with heavy taunting of him? Arjun may not be the most revered actor, but is that an excuse for people to bully him? Can you imagine the bullying and harassment you would have to face daily as you tried to better yourself? Just because you become a public figure, doesn’t mean you should have to lose your dignity.

The jokes have become stale now, though. They get so old, too often repeated, that instead of funny, they feel hurtful. Trolling is really bullying under the pretense of a joke, not recreation.

Let’s normalize kindness and stop normalizing malice. If you want to be really cool on the internet, just show empathy, don’t insult.

Since humiliating someone loses the entertainment value in the comedy honestly, this becomes uglier instead.
