Before Rani Mukerji: The 7 Actresses Considered for Tina in KKHH

Before Rani Mukerji: The 7 Actresses Considered for Tina in KKHH

Tina in KKHH: Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were the main characters Karan Johar immediately imagined for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai when he started to write it. The difficulty in choosing Tina was real. Many well-known actresses were contacted, but most refused to play second fiddle to Kajol. Rani Mukerji finally accepted the role and gave a performance that would define her career.

Initially writing Tina with Twinkle Khanna in mind, Johar even named the character after her moniker. Khanna rejected, nevertheless, saying she gave little consideration to the screenplay. Her on-screen stiffness and erratic professional path made it challenging to picture her bringing the warmth and innocence Rani brought to Tina in KKHH.

Tabu: A Unexpected Candidate

Tabu was an unusual pick because of her strong, serious roles. Although she could manage the emotional intensity of the narrative and birth scene, it’s unclear if she could exhibit the youthful elegance and campus charm necessary for Tina’s character.

Shilpa Shetty and Raveena Tandon: glamorous but unsuitable

Feeling her strong personality didn’t fit Tina’s delicate charm, Raveena Tandon bluntly termed the role “career suicide.” Though stunning opposite SRK, Shilpa Shetty lacked the sensitivity in chemistry that made Rani and Shah Rukh’s coupling so unforgettable.

Urmila Matondkar and Karisma Kapoor: Too familiar

Being a big celebrity, Karisma Kapoor was too prominent for a part that vanished halfway, and she had just acted in Dil To Pagal Hai as a Westernized character. Although she was gorgeous and gifted, Urmila Matondkar was linked to films like Rangeela and Daud, therefore making her less fresh choice.

Aishwarya Rai, The Almost-Tina

Though her acting range and speech delivery were still developing early in her career, Aishwarya Rai might have made a memorable college entrance. She refused the part—a decision that seems sensible in retrospect—because of date conflicts and worries about being typecast as a gorgeous girl.
