The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput case. This decision comes more than four years after the agency took over the investigation.

Meanwhile the case closure report covers two cases. One case was based on allegations made by Sushant’s father against his then-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty. The second case was Rhea Chakraborty’s complaint against Sushant’s family.
The CBI took over the probe from the Bihar Police in August 2020. The agency after four years of investigation concluded that there was no evidence to suggest anyone was responsible for Sushant’s suicide. As a result, Rhea Chakraborty and her family were cleared of all accusations.
A forensic team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) supported the CBI’s findings. They confirmed that Sushant’s death was a suicide and not a murder.
For the unversed, after his death, Sushant’s father KK Singh filed a case in Patna. He accused Rhea Chakraborty of mentally harassing his son. He also alleged that she gave him drugs used his money and played a role in his death.
When the CBI took over, they directed the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to analyze the evidence. The CFSL examined Sushant’s laptop, hard disks, a camera and two mobile phones. They conducted a detailed forensic analysis. More than 20 people, including Rhea Chakraborty were questioned during the investigation.
Following the closure report, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde expressed relief. He said that both Rhea and her family were thankful for the thorough investigation. He criticized the media for spreading false stories. He believed the pandemic increased media attention since people were stuck at home. He added that Rhea suffered unnecessarily and was jailed for 27 days without any valid reason.
Maneshinde praised Rhea for staying strong throughout the ordeal. He also expressed pride in representing her family. He highlighted the importance of a fair judicial system.
