Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama ‘Chhava’ has created a stir at the box office by surpassing Shraddha Kapoor’s horror-comedy ‘Stree 2.’ Released on February 14, the film has now become the second highest grossing Hindi film of the year. Within 53 days, Chhava has grabbed everyone’s attention by earning Rs 598.80 crore. Now the film is just two crores away from the historic figure of 600 crores. Whereas Stree 2 had earned a total of Rs 597.99 crore after its release. In this competition, Vicky Kaushal’s film won the final round.

If you could not watch Chhava in theaters, then be happy. If reports are to be believed, this film can be streamed on Netflix from 11 April 2025. What is the story of ‘Chhava’?
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhava is a grand period drama based on the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Based on Shivaji Samant’s novel ‘Chhava,’ Vicky Kaushal has brought life to the character of Sambhaji Maharaj in this film. At the same time, Rashmika Mandanna has played Rani Yesubai, and Akshay Khanna has played Aurangzeb. The background, dialogues, and war scenes of the film make the audience emotional.

Stree 2, releasing on August 14, 2024, was a horror-comedy starring Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi. The film was the story of a headless monster that wreaks havoc in the city of Chanderi. The audience liked the film, but it could not stand up to the historical grandeur of Chhawa. The next film in this franchise, Stree 3, will now release on August 13, 2027.
Chhawa may have taken a big leap, but Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawaan is still on top with earnings of 640.25 crores. This action thriller, released in 2023, had Shah Rukh in a double role, and the film created a stir at the box office as soon as it was released. Now if Vicky’s film earns 40 crores more, it will surpass this film.
