Dhruv Rathee, a well-known YouTuber and social commentator, found issue with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan for “advertising pan masala.” In a new video, “My Question to Shah Rukh Khan,” Rathee asked the wealthy, famous actor why he was promoting something that everyone knows is bad for your health.
According to media reports, Shah Rukh Khan has a net worth of approximately ₹12,400 crore ($1.4 billion) which makes him one of the richest actors globally. To Rathee, the real question was: why was a person of such wealth (and respect) drawn into ads for pan masala in the first place?
In the video, Rathee asked,”Shah Rukh Khan has now become a billlion-dollar guy after owning luxury properties and private jets and after traveling to different places. After spending that money, there should still be more money than he could use. So why would he put his name to anything that has health risks?”
Dhruv Rathee also shared that, in 2014, Shah Rukh got paid around ₹20 crore for endorsing the pan masala brand. He stated that he felt this endorsement’s rate has multiplied by 5-10 times, therefore if Rathee predicted the price will probably range from ₹100 to ₹200 crore nowadays based on Shah Rukh’s popularity. Rathee also questioned whether such an amount is necessary for a person of Shah Rukh’s stature.
The YouTuber highlighted that in India, celebrities have an impact on millions of fans. Rathee also mentioned that if a role model like Shah Rukh Khan renounces endorsing harmful products, it will encourage and affect behavior throughout the entire country.
He concluded the video by encouraging viewers to share it widely so that his message could get to the Bollywood Superstar directly.
